Tuomo & Markus is a new musical project featuring acclaimed Finnish soul artist Tuomo Prättälä and singer/songwriter Markus Nordenstreng from Finland’s premier Americana act The Latebirds.
The two gentlemen gathered spontaneously at Wavelab Studios in Tucson AZ to record new music with their friends who included Calexico’s John Convertino, Joey Burns and Jakob Valenzuela, Wilco’s John Stirratt and Pat Sansone, plus Gary Louris from The Jayhawks who also contributed one song.
While their timeless songs are often rooted in the Great American Songbook and their harmonies recall Simon & Garfunkel and 60s Laurel Canyon, Tuomo & Markus are no retro act. Unusual arrangements and fearless use of unexpected sounds, musical styles and beats tie the duo’s debut album ‘YOUNG MALE SPINSTERS’ firmly to the 21st Century. Watch out for Tuomo & Markus in 2014.
Underhanded Improv combines the talents of improviser Peter Robards along with improviser/puppeteer Sam Locke to take you on a twisted thrill ride through a world that might resemble your favorite sitcom’s ‘Very Special Episode…’ if it aired in the Twilight Zone. The show might teach how NOT to handle the situations you might encounter in an after school special, retell some very fractured fairy tales, or show you what Sesame Street would be like after the apocalypse: it all depends on your suggestion. The two performers have over two decades of performance experience between them & have appeared individually in festivals all over North America (from LA to NY & from Texas to Toronto). Underhanded Improv just got back from performing in Cleveland at the 4th annual Big-Little Comedy Festival & is looking forward to performing in the 2014 Alaska State Improv Festival in April. All the puppets featured in the show are hand built by Sam Locke.
