The Bucket Show Origin Story
Jack, Wolfgang and Eric were actually cleaning their apartment one day – a semi-annual event. As they scrubbed layers of dirt off the wood floor they brainstormed some ideas for a new show that they wanted to create. Jack and Wolfgang knew they wanted improv acts. Eric, Paper Thick Walls, knew music would be a part of it. Jack had the idea that the improv set would be inspired by a song that the musician would play. As they scrubbed the grease from the kitchen stove, they came up with a format for the musician to play three songs; each one acting as suggestion for the next act. Wolfgang, having just done his first storytelling at Story Lab and Here’s The Story, threw a storyteller into the mix. Then all they needed was a name. After pouring out the brown water from the bucket, Wolfgang went to put it away in the furnace closet and discovered that there was a second identical bucket. “Why do we have two blue plastic buckets?” exclaimed Wolfgang, tired of the clutter. This lead to a discussion of which bucket to keep. They settled on the fact that none of them could part with their respective buckets and they would keep both. The discussion was so asinine that it left them delirious. That’s when someone said, “Let’s call it the Bucket Show.” The rest is history.
